Linda Burlile

I never dreamed that I would be passionately tutoring kids.  After receiving my bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University in fashion merchandising, I worked as an assistant buyer both at Lazarus and Express. During that time, I really enjoyed training new assistants and seeing them have success.  I never realized this would lead me to my second career some day.

I homeschooled my three children.  Not all of my kids learned to read easily, because of their different learning styles.  I researched different reading methods and applied many of the concepts from the Orton-Gillingham method without realizing what I was doing.   As my children entered public school, I no longer desired the retailing life.  I realized that I loved to teach.

Besides my children, I taught all different ages from preschool through adults at my church and I loved helping others to discover the "aha moments" through learning.   I worked for Learning Rx tutoring in math, reading, and cognitive skills.   One of my students was just not catching on to reading using this method.  I researched several Orton-Gillingham methods which led me to start tutoring two students using the Barton Reading & Spelling System and was later certified by Susan Barton.  I completed the graduate-level class, "Screening for Dyslexia" offered by Susan Barton and completed additional Orton-Gillingham training.  I also received mentoring in a new multisensory math program.  I look forward to each day of tutoring students using games and activities to help them reach their goals.
